Brush Type 4 Class 47 No. D1577 at Darlington shed 51A on a damp overcast day on Easter Sunday 18th April 1965. Later to be renumbered as Class 47/4 47457

A trainspotter in his school uniform, wearing an anorak, school cap, short trousers and knee socks starts to walk behind the loco. Although being slowly phased out, shorts and caps were items of school uniform common at this time.

The quintessential Sixties schoolboy trainspotter in his school uniform of peaked school cap, shirt, tie, pullover, blazer, short trousers and knee socks, poses for a photo in front of London & North Eastern Railway/British Railways Peppercorn Class A1 4-6-2 Pacific No. 60124 'Kenilworth' at Darlington Shed 51A on Easter Sunday 18th April 1965. The loco is on standby duties by the turntable so if necessary, it can be turned quickly.

By this date, there were only two A1s left on the North Eastern Region: 60124 and 60145, both on standby duties with the former at Darlington and the latter at York.

Withdrawal came on March 27th 1966. In May it was sold for scrap to Drapers of Hull but was seen lying withdrawn at York shed on the 21st and again on July 7th but this time minus a chimney.

Although being slowly phased out, shorts and caps were items of school uniform common at this time.

A schoolboy trainspotter in his anorak and school uniform of peaked school cap, shirt, tie, pullover, blazer, short trousers and knee socks, poses for a photo in the cab of Class J37 0-6-0 No. 65859 at Darlington Shed 51A on Easter Sunday 18th April 1965.

The loco was a Wilson Worsdell NER development of Class J26, built by Beyer Peacock Ltd in August 1908 and withdrawn from 52F North Blyth shed in September 1966. It was scrapped by Hughes Bolckows, North Blyth in December 1966.

Although being slowly phased out, shorts and caps were items of school uniform common at this time.

LNER/BR Worsdell Class J27 0-6-0 No. 65815 stands ex-works in the yard at Darlington Shed 51A on 21st July 1963. The loco was withdrawn from North Blyth shed 52F in November 1966 and cut up by T.J. Thompson, Stockton in March 1967

Withdrawn LMS/BR Stanier Class 3P 2-6-2 tank No. 40190 stored in the yard at Darlington Shed 51A on 21st July 1963. The loco had been withdrawn in October 1962 and was eventually cut up at Darlington Works, North Road scrapyard in February 1964.

The small roundhouse can be seen it the background which was mainly used to accomodate the shed's J94 saddle tanks and latterly diesel shunters
