LNER Class Gresley London & North Eastern Railway V1 2-6-2 Tank
Built 1930-1940. Designed by Nigel Gresley.
Total Number Built 82 - Total to BR 19.
Introduced 1930. Gresley design with a 180lb/sq.in. boiler.
Eighty-two locos were built up to 1938 as Class V1, In 1939 and 1940 a further ten were built with a 200lb/sq.in. boiler and classified as Class V3.
A total of 63 Class V1 locomotives were subsequently rebuilt to Class V3, four by the LNER (a) and fifty nine by BR (b) - see Locomotive Numbers below.
The engines are identical in appearance to Class V3.
