LNER Class Holden S D Great Eastern Railway F6 2-4-2 Tank
Built 1911-20. Designed by S D Holden.
Total Number Built 22 - Total to BR 22.
Introduced 1911. S D Holden Great Eastern Railway (GER) G69 Class development of LNER Class F4 with higher boiler pressure, larger tanks and side-window cab.
(a) 67218-67219 Rebuilt from Class F4 design of 1904, retaining the smaller side tanks but acquiring side-window cabs. Reclassified Class F5 in 1948.
(b) 62718 fitted with push-pull apparatus in 1949.
This class was the final development of 2-4-2 radial tank on the GER with larger tanks. They were readily distinguishable from the earlier types by the inclusion of cab windows. Withdrawals began in 1955 with the class being extinct within three years.
All originally had the later style of lipped chimney, but one or two later acqired the stove pipe pattern.
