Introduced 1911. S D Holden Great Eastern Railway rebuild with high-pressure boiler of Class F4.
Class total increased when two Class F6 locomotives were reclassified as Class F5 in 1948.
(a) Fitted with steam brakes and vacuum operated push-pull control apparatus in 1949 for working the Epping-Ongar services.

At Nationalisation all the class was based at Stratford, Colchester and Parkeston sheds and all were withdrawn by 1958.
