EE Type 3 Class 37/4 37431 (D6972, 37272) at Crewe on 18 February 1989

37431 arrives heading the 1V11 11.20 Liverpool - Cardiff.

Built at EE Vulcan Foundry in March 1965, this loco went new to Cardiff Canton depot. It remained a Cardiff engine, apart from two brief spells at Laira and Motherwell, throughout its BR days until sectorisation in the 90s. Withdrawn by EWS in April 1999 for component recovery, it was cut up at Wigan CRDC in January 2000.

The loco was named "Sir Powys/ County of Powys" at Llandrindod Wells on 17/06/1987 to mark Mid Wales councils' support for the railways and this station's upgrade.
