Built EE Vulcan Foundry in June 1959 as D212, as 40012 it was withdrawn from Kingmoor MPD in February 1985 following derailment and a cracked bogie frame; re-instated in May 1985, here 97407 "Aureol" arrives hauling a down CCE ballast spoil train.

Eventually withdrawn in April 1986, it passed into preservation with the Class 40 Appeal Group.
