Built by EE Vulcan Foundry in April 1966; here 86317 pilots an unidentified Class86, doubleheading an up block bogie steel coil train from Ravenscraig.

The 86/3 sub-class were original Class86 locos fitted with SAB resilient wheels to overcome a historic poor riding problem and uprated for 100mph passenger running.

Latterly a Res sector loco, it was scrapped in November 2004 at Booth-Roe Metals, Rotherham.
