86244 arrives on 1S49 07.15 Nottingham - Glasgow, which it will have hauled from Preston where that train comes under the wires. At the time of the photo, it had been retro-fitted with the Stone-Faiveley pantograph, as this loco was an early test bed for the Brecknell-Willis high speed pantograph from 1980 onwards.

This loco was named "Royal British Legion" at Euston on 02 Nov 1981 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Legion, helping ex-serviceman and their dependents.

Built Aug 1965 at EE Vulcan Foundry, this loco was withdrawn when it came off lease from Virgin Trains in July 2003 and was cut up that November at Easco, Immingham.
